“Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is as strong as death, jealousy as cruel as the grave, its flames is flames of fire, a most vehement (intense) flame. Many waters cannot quench love, nor can the floods drown it. If a man could give for love all the wealth of his house, it would be utterly despised”. Above passage is the love of Shulamite to her beloved.
Mark 9 - “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
Every Christian thinks that at some point of their life, that they are closer to God. However, at the same time, when we look into ourselves, we are well aware of our spiritual shortcomings. Do you think this is a contradiction? That’s what disciples of Jesus Christ experienced in their lives. When I read Mark 9, I understood that disciples were same like me and you. They were walking with Jesus Christ all day long, however they did have shortcomings in their life. We still have a lot of growing to do in our Christian faith. For more than two years, the disciples lived and walked with Jesus all the time. They heard everything He taught and preached. They had seen all the situations dealt by Him and circumstances of all kinds. They had seen the miracles of healing, casting out demons and rising from dead. They witnessed the whole life of Jesus Christ. Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
In every nation, we have various types of election for various positions. The nation’s public vote their favourite candidates and make them to win with lots of expectations. Our God also elected us or chose us with great expectations. Have we ever thought about it? In this article, I would like to mention few points about Godly election. As we read in John 15:16, “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”, we did not choose God. He is the one who chose us even before the creation of this world. That’s what we read in Ephesians 1:4 “For He chose us in Him before the creation of the word…” Just as we have problems in our physical lives we also experience problems in our spiritual lives. Facing and conquering difficulties cause us to grow and be strengthened. As we grow in our spiritual strength we bring glory to God. As we read in 2 Corinthians 2:9, His grace is sufficient for us, his power is made perfect in weakness. Some of the problems that are common in a Christian life are sin, temptation, suffering, knowing will of God and doubt.
Psalms 46:10a says “Be still, and know that I am God”
Hosea 6:3a “Let us know, Let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord.” When we read above two verses, Holy Spirit speaks to us that we should know our God in a way we should know him. Nowadays many are aware about the concept of God or believe in the existence of God to an extent. Some say that God gives healing, job, money, house etc. However in this devotion I would like to say few aspects that what a true Christian must know about God. |
